How Zing got here.
Zing began in 2018 building drone delivery technology and running advanced delivery demonstrations — a Kickstarter-funded delivery kit for Part 107 pilots, a contactless delivery platform tested across 20 cities, the first drone delivery across the Mississippi River, and emergency deliveries to Sanibel Island after Hurricane Ian.
Years of flying in regulated airspace taught the team something no lab could: there was no reliable way to know what was flying nearby, or who was flying it. Coordinating drones with everything else operating overhead — other aircraft, ground personnel, air traffic, and the public — was the real constraint on the industry.
That problem became the company. Zing brought Remote ID compliance hardware to market with Z-RID Lite, approved by the FAA and EASA in 2023, then began building Z-SCAN in 2024 as one of seven founding companies in the Oregon UAS Accelerator.
Today, Zing builds Remote ID broadcast modules that bring aircraft into compliance, and detection systems deployed at Oregon Department of Corrections facilities, Salinas Airport, and drone test sites. Our approach locates the pilot rather than jamming the drone, so security teams can respond without disrupting the hospitals, airports, and emergency services around them. Longer term, Zing is building toward nationwide airspace management and the technology that will let autonomous aircraft identify and coordinate with one another directly.

- 2018
Zing is founded
The company is formed and builds the Zing Pilot mobile app for semi-autonomous flight, beginning years of hands-on drone operations.
- 2019
Drone delivery kit and Part 107 operations
Zing completes a successful Kickstarter campaign and launches a drone delivery kit for Part 107 pilots in the US. Every team member earns Part 107 certification.
- 2020
Contactless delivery at scale
Zing test-launches its contactless delivery platform across 20 cities, completes Xact Landing software for precision drop-offs, and joins the BEYOND program in Kansas.
- 2021
Landmark delivery demonstrations
Zing completes the first drone delivery across the Mississippi River in New Orleans, a microphone delivery to the top of the Miami Paramount WorldCenter, and a golf course delivery for the Detroit Aerotropolis.
- 2022
Disaster response and brand partnerships
Zing secures over $100K in investment via Wefunder, partners with Budweiser and Miami Hack Week, and performs emergency drone deliveries to Sanibel Island after Hurricane Ian.
- 2023
Z-RID Lite approved by FAA and EASA
Zing engineers Z-RID Lite at MIT with US-based manufacturing, earns FAA and EASA approval for the Remote ID module, and raises the first $375K of a $1.5M seed round.
- 2024
Pivot to counter-UAS detection
Zing is selected as one of seven founding companies for the Oregon UAS Accelerator in Pendleton, partners with leaders in advanced air mobility and airspace security, and begins development of the Z-SCAN counter-UAS platform.
- 2025
First place at Pendleton, first major deployments
Zing wins 1st place at the Proven in Pendleton Counter-UAS Challenge in March, deploys Z-SCAN across multiple Oregon Department of Corrections facilities in August, and installs Z-SCAN at the La Selva Beach drone testing facility for air taxi testing in November.

Z-SCAN Mini and domestic manufacturing
Zing launches Z-SCAN Mini for public safety and law enforcement Remote ID detection, installs Z-SCAN at Salinas Airport in California, and establishes a manufacturing hub in Pendleton, Oregon for domestic production of Z-SCAN and Z-RID Lite.
